Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops

2203 LTSR (initial release)

About this release

The Long Term Service Release (LTSR) program for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops provides stability and long-term support for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops releases.

LTSRs are also available for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 1912 and XenApp and XenDesktop Version 7.15.

This Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops release includes new versions of the Windows Virtual Delivery Agents (VDAs) and new versions of several core components. You can:

  • Install or upgrade a site: Use the ISO for this release to install or upgrade core components and VDAs. Installing or upgrading to the latest version allows you to use the latest features.

  • Install or upgrade VDAs in an existing site: If you already have a deployment, and aren’t ready to upgrade your core components, you can still use several of the latest HDX features by installing (or upgrading to) a new VDA. Upgrading only the VDAs can be helpful when you want to test enhancements in a non-production environment.

After upgrading your VDAs to this version (from version 7.9 or later), you do not need to update the machine catalog’s functional level. The 7.9 (or later) value remains the default functional level, and is valid for this release. For more information, see VDA versions and functional levels.

PowerShell commands to manage Local Host Cache(LHC)

You can now use PowerShell commands to manage LHC on Delivery Controllers. For more information, see Local Host Cache PowerShell commands.

Hybrid Rights License

Starting with the 2203 LTSR initial release, previously unsupported public cloud host connections can now be deployed using the new Hybrid Rights License. So, you can now use on-premises deployments with cloud deployments. The public cloud host connections that are supported are: AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. If your deployment has public cloud host connections, you can’t upgrade to the current version without the Hybrid Rights License. For more information, see the following:

Virtual Delivery Agents (VDAs) 2203

Version 2203 of the Windows single-session OS and multi-session OS VDAs includes the following enhancements. These items are in addition to any VDA installation and upgrade items listed earlier in this article.

Keyboard layout enhancements for Windows login screen

The 2203 LTSR initial release addresses keyboard layout issues occurring on the Windows sign-in screen prompted by a VDA when single sign-on isn’t possible (for example, during a connection lease-based launch while using Service Continuity.) Before this release, the VDA’s keyboard layout was used on the Windows sign-in screen.

Starting with the 2203 LTSR initial release, when you sign in to a virtual session on the VDA, you can now enter credentials using your local client keyboard layout.

Adaptive audio update

Adaptive audio and UDP audio now have a new implementation. For more information, see Audio over UDP Real-time Transport and audio UDP port range.

Citrix Director

TLS 1.3 support

Citrix Director now supports TLS version 1.3.

Citrix Studio

Changes in host support for Current Releases

Starting with the 2203 LTSR initial release, current releases of the product support VDAs (machines that deliver apps and desktops) on the following public cloud hosts:

  • Amazon Web Services
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Microsoft Azure Resource Manager

Important:

If you want to add public cloud host connections to your deployment, you need a Hybrid Rights License. For information about Hybrid Rights License, see Transition and Trade-Up (TTU) with Hybrid Rights.

For a complete list of supported host and virtualization resources, see System requirements.

License validity checks

Citrix Studio now automatically checks the validity of licenses in use by host connections. A host connection is placed into maintenance mode if its license is invalid. As a result, you can’t perform certain operations, such as editing the connection and turning off maintenance mode. A license becomes invalid, for example, when:

  • The license has expired. In this case, contact your Citrix sales representative to renew it or to purchase new licenses.

  • The license has been deleted from the License Server.
